One important element of the ongoing reform of the Common Agricultural Policy are the new Schemes for the climate and the environment - the so called eco-schemes - introduced for the first time by the European Commission. Eco-schemes are innovative income tools aiming to support farmer’s revenues. Contrary to the traditional income support tools, eco-schemes target those farmers that want to deliver more. Eco-schemes are designed in order to address specific regional and local needs in terms of environment and climate. Built in multifunctional layers, these income instruments are able to focus more on the particular farmer’s performance rather than on the traditional compliance. They may become a huge policy instrument to achieve a greater environmental and climate performance in agriculture while supporting farming income and environmental and climatic ambition.
During this webinar, the Renew Group in the European Parliament will shortly present its approach to the eco-schemes before asking experts from different European research institutions for their views on these schemes and their possible contributions to a more sustainable and resilient European food system.
